Is it possible for a minor to have coronary artery disease?

I’m 15. I get a lot of emotional stress over my girlfriend for the fact that she is moving. I was wondering if i could develop coronary artery disease. My dad has cholesterol and everything.

It is possible… but unlikely at your age.

If you are asking because you are having pains in your heart over your girlfriend leaving — that is an emotional/hormonal response and it happens to everyone in this type of situation, it is not a sign of heart disease.

However, with your family history it is especially important for you to eat a healthy diet (low in saturated fat) and to get exercise (3x per week, and stay at a healthy body weight) and practice stress reduction (meditation, art, music, etc). You need to do this now, and throughout your entire life… because when you are older, if you haven’t maintained these healthy habits you very well could develop heart disease.
